Quinn is doing well and still in good spirits. He insisted on keeping his drain - which is like a bouncy hand-grenade on a string - and is having a ball with it at home now. He calls it 'Boingy-Boingy'. His neck is still stiff and sore - due the the muscle work I am sure - and his ear is very swollen and sensitive, but otherwise he is doing well.

Q post-op
All done now. Took 4 hours ! It was more complex than expected. But we're hoping for a good result. He took aaaages to wake up afterwards but has been smiling & happy since opening his eyes.
He has to stay over night as he has a drain.
They did some complicated muscle graft to try fill up the mastoid cavity so he has a drain for that, and I expect it will hurt too. They hope this will help to stabilise his ear though, so it does not stay 'wet' and disrupt the cartilage plate which holds the implant in place.
He has to stay over night as he has a drain.
Quinn in surgery now
Quinn is in surgery right now. He's having his 5th c-toma surgery. This is the 4th on the right ear.
He is having an ossicularplasty (titanium hearing bone implant), to replace the one that came out recently - they are trying something different this time and took a whole hearing kit & extra specialist in with them, to try to make sure they get as good a fit as possible.
He is also having a tympanoplasty (ear drum replacement) and grommet (tube) inserted.
They weren't sure whether they'd do CWD (Canal Wall Down - ie in via incision behind the ear) or up (ie up through the ear canal and through the ear drum)this time, it was going to be decided based on what the consulting Prof thinks & whether they want to drill in the mastoid cavity or not. There are some boney ridges in there which are tending to cause debris & skin to build up etc, so the ear is not very good at self cleaning.
He's been in for 3 hours now... So I am assuming they went the CWD route.
Please spare a thought for him. And hold thumbs that they find no recurrence of the dreaded Cholesteatoma in there!!

I am
Laura Kim posted this so I decided to join in.
I am… trying to stop letting everything overwhelm me, I need to get my zen back.
I know… I need to excerise regularly and eat healthily to feel happy.
I want…. Less tress. To work less hours and have less work too so I don't have to feel bad about the less hours! ;)
I wish…. I was a better parent and was able to have mre time with the boys and to have more fun with them again. I feel I am failing in this recently, and it REALLY sux.
I fear… being inadequate and unloveable.
I feel… a bit worried about Quinn's surgery tomorrow, but I trust our doc and think it will be ok. HOLDING THUMBS.
I smell… my yummy imported Toothpaste which was gifted to me. I LOVE IT!
I hear…. the wind... I REALLY hope it stops before Sunday - when I am riding my first Argus Cycle Tour!
I wonder… whether I will do this big thing I am contemplating. It's a pretty major decision...
I believe… if it's meant to be, it will happen and work out. So I am waiting to see what happens.
I sing… when I listen to my iPOD and run, but only if I am fairly sure no one can hear me!
I cried last…when I fell and cracked my elbow. It really hurt and I felt bruised and vulnerable on every level that day.
I can usually be found… running, cycling, working or in bed.
I am happy… when I run.

The Scale of the Universe
This site is amazing I can't stop scrolling. I showed the boys and they are fascinated by it too.
You can get an idea of the scale of things and can scroll in and out past various sizes for ages.
Great for kids and adults alike.
Check it out..

Song of the Day....
Quinn SHUSHED me last night
I have finally managed to be embarrassing to my children... a milestone moment!
At the dinner table last night we were going through Griffin's science info for his test, and it was to do with the reproductive parts of plants.
Somehow we went from there to human reproduction so I was talking about 'Vagina' 'Uterus' 'Penis' 'Testicles' etc. Griffin was breaking down into giggles and I kept asking why, and he said 'Cos you are talking about RUDE parts.'

So I said no I wasn't it's scientific. And I said the words louder. So Quinn stage wispered. 'MOM SHUSH, the neighbours might hear you!!' (Note the neighbour has a hot blonde teenage daughter... LOL.)

Why don't you come away
This is the song I was actually looking for the other day... it didn't seem to be available online, but I found it! :) I am really liking the Kongos right now, I hope to catch them live sometime soon.
Escape
by Jesse Kongos
Every few thousand years
Come true man's greatest fears
All the living things
Mother nature brings to tears
When the bombs are bursting in the air
(And) the rockets are making that red glare
I'm heading down
Down to that good hope town
Where the weather's fair
So why don't you come away
With me my love
We'll do what it takes
I'll keep you safe
Why don't you stay by me
(And) when the time comes
We'll escape
When the big one finally hits LA
When Yellowstone has it's day
We're heading to the the Southern tip
On a plane or on a ship
We'll do what it takes we'll find a way
And if that cloud forms up above
No sign anywhere of a dove
There'll be no reason left to stay
We'll try and live another day
In a place where there's still love
